12/11/2017 0 Comments How to Double Cleanse?
There are many incredible skin benefits of double cleansing, including:
You’d be forgiven for thinking that double cleansing involves using your regular cleanser twice, however, double cleansing requires two different kinds of cleansers to effectively remove the different kinds of build-up found on the skin at the end of the day. The first of your two cleanses should take place using an oil or balm to melt make up, sunscreen and remove excess oil from the pores. Dermalogica’s PreCleanse is the perfect product for the first step of your double cleansing routine. The lightweight oil contains an expert blend of botanical oils, including; Borage Seed, Apricot Kernel, Kukui Nut, Sunflower Seed and Rice Bran, which work together to remove make up and sunscreen from the skin, as well as liquefying sebum and unclogging the pores, ready for the second cleanse. The PreCleanse removes even the most long-wearing make-up, including liquid lipsticks and waterproof mascara. Simply apply a few drops of the PreCleanse to a damp cotton round to remove eye and lip make up, then apply the PreCleanse oil to the rest of your face using dry hands to dissolve make up, oil and dirt. The second of your cleanses should take place using a cleanser that’s tailored to the individual needs of your complexion to truly target your skin concerns and replenish your skin. The Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel is suitable for all skin types and is the perfect addition to your double cleansing routine. The concentrated gel formula works to effectively cleanse the skin, removing dirt and impurities without stripping the skin, while the calming agent works to soothe and purify the complexion to leave you with thoroughly cleansed and nourished skin. Simply follow up with your favourite toner, serum and moisturiser for the ultimate skin care routine. 10/10/2017 1 Comment Double cleansing: The secret to better skin. Twice the effort, but you’ll reap the rewards
As the most important step in your skin care routine, it makes sense to cleanse not once, but twice. The first cleanse should remove make up, bacteria and dirt from the skin. The second cleanse should target your skin care needs to deeply cleanse and care for the skin, as well as creating a healthy foundation for the rest of your skin care products. Washing the slate clean every night is even more important for problem or acne-prone skin. Leaving the day's dirt, makeup, excess oil and even dead skin cells on your face over time can lead to blocked pores, irritation, skin barrier damage and spots. Any blocked skin pores left untreated and not cleansed can lead to comedones - black heads and white heads – and this creates the perfect conditions for inflammatory acne to develop," warns dermatologist, Dr Philippa Lowe. Always on the quest for perfect skin, skin care experts, Dermalogica, believe that the extra cleanse really makes all the difference.
Tune in next week to find out how to double cleanse and what products to use. 22/9/2017 2 Comments How to care for your colour
Pick the right products
There’s a reason we recommend salon professional shampoos and conditioners for colour treated hair. We know they’re more expensive than what you pick up at your local Superdrug, but trust us, they are so worth it. You’re spending money on your colour so you may as well look after it and make sure it lasts. Don’t believe us? Check out this video! We stock Redken Color Extend Shampoo and Conditioner in the salon so you can grab it after your appointment. Skip the hair wash day (if you can) When you wash your hair less, your colour lasts longer. If you can go a day or two between hair washes, your colour will thank you. Save your locks between washes with a little dry shampoo at your roots. Turn down the heat A hot shower opens up your cuticle releasing colour and moisture. It’s sad, we know, but turning the temperature down in the shower when you’re washing your hair will make your colour last much longer. We’re not saying you need to stand in a cold shower, just wash your hair as cool as you can. Conditioner is your friend Smooth on a deep conditioning mask once a week to keep your locks hydrated and healthy. In a previous blog we explain how to use coconut oil to condition your hair to keep it looking fab. Avoid hot tools Hot tools such as hair dryers, straighteners and curling tongs speed up the process of colour fading. We suggest avoiding them for the first week after your appointment if you can. When you are applying heat to your hair, be sure to use a heat protection product as this will protect your hair and help reduce colour fade. In short, if you want your colour to look fabulous long after you’ve left the salon, look after it. Avoid chemicals and heat where possible as these will speed up the process of your colour fading. But most importantly, have fun with your new hair! 31/8/2017 3 Comments Coconut oil in your beauty regimeWe’re sure you’ve heard of coconut oil by now. It’s been hailed a miracle by health and beauty enthusiasts everywhere. So we thought we’d try out the popular, and not so popular uses for coconut oil in our beauty regime to see if it truly is all it’s cracked up to be.
Coconut oil as a conditioner Ok, we were pretty dubious about this one, oil in hair is a recipe for disaster surely? Well very greasy looking locks anyway. Not great when promoting a salon but we gave it a go. We put the coconut oil in our hair just like a conditioner, paying lots of attention to the ends of our hair – this is where your hair is more dry and this means it’s more likely to break and split, not good girls. We wrapped our oily hair in a towel and pottered around the house for 20 minutes or so. After washing the oil out with shampoo, go ahead with your usual shower routine. The result? We were pleasantly surprised. Ok it was only one application but our hair actually felt smoother and looked slightly shinier. Plus, it was a bit a pamper that we quite enjoyed! Quick tip, make sure you thoroughly wash the oil out otherwise you’ll look like you haven’t showered at all. We want shiny hair, not greasy. Coconut oil as a moisturiser This one seems the most obvious to us. It was very moisturising but it was also quite greasy. We’re not sure we’d use it as a full body moisturiser all of the time due to drying time but if you got time to kill, go for it. We do think it would be great to use on your dry areas before self-tanning so we’ll give this a go next! Coconut oil as an exfoliator Simply mix with a bit of sugar and get going. We did this in the shower as it seemed like a sticky mess but again we were pleasantly surprised. Our skin felt silky smooth and also moisturised. I think we’ll be sticking with this recipe for a while. If you’ve got sugar and coconut oil in the house it’s a great way to save a few quid on an exfoliator! Coconut oil to remove your make up Pardon us now? This stuff removes make up?! Girls, this was a great make up remover! Even our stubborn waterproof mascara was no problem! Take some coconut oil in your fingers and simply rub it over your face. Just a warning, use a flannel that you don’t mind getting a bit dirty. Removing make up with coconut oil gets a bit messy! Other than the initial mess of eye make up smeared around your eyes, we liked it. Our faces felt really clean after and it was an added bonus that we didn’t have to apply moisturiser afterwards! I don’t think it’ll totally replace make up wipes because let’s face it, a flannel and coconut oil aren’t quite as accessible as some wipes but we’ll definitely be doing it again! We’ve quite enjoyed experimenting with this so if there’s anything else you’d like us to try for you, drop us a message! 30/5/2017 0 Comments Treat with botanical oilsAvailable at health food stores, olive, jojoba, and sweet almond oils are all wonderful elixirs for damaged hair. If your hair is thick and heavy, coconut oil works well. Dampen your hair and apply small amounts of the botanical oil until your hair is thoroughly covered. Top off with shower cap and warm towel for about 30 minutes, then rinse and shampoo your hair out.
9/1/2017 1 Comment Rinse with TeaYou may think of tea as a sore throat remedy, but you can also use it to give hair a natural shine. use a quart of warm, unsweetened tea (freshly brewed or instant) as a final rinse after your regular shampoo. Tea can enhance hair color, so make sure to use a tea that works with your hair color. Blondes should use chamomile tea; black tea may darken their tresses. Brunettes should use black tea to enhance shine and enrich color.
15/12/2016 2 Comments Condition with olive oilPut the moisture back into dry hair by warming up 1/2 cup olive oil (do not boil it), and then rubbing it into your hair. Cover tresses with a plastic bag, then wrap everything in a towel. Let this home remedy do its thing for 45 minutes, then shampoo and completely rinse.
6/12/2016 1 Comment Massage with ButterTry this home remedy: treat dry, brittle hair with a small amount of butter for a glossy shine. Massage it into your dry hair, then cover your hair with a shower cap for about a half hour. Shampoo as usual, and rinse all the butter out.
