31/8/2017 4 Comments Coconut oil in your beauty regimeWe’re sure you’ve heard of coconut oil by now. It’s been hailed a miracle by health and beauty enthusiasts everywhere. So we thought we’d try out the popular, and not so popular uses for coconut oil in our beauty regime to see if it truly is all it’s cracked up to be.
Coconut oil as a conditioner Ok, we were pretty dubious about this one, oil in hair is a recipe for disaster surely? Well very greasy looking locks anyway. Not great when promoting a salon but we gave it a go. We put the coconut oil in our hair just like a conditioner, paying lots of attention to the ends of our hair – this is where your hair is more dry and this means it’s more likely to break and split, not good girls. We wrapped our oily hair in a towel and pottered around the house for 20 minutes or so. After washing the oil out with shampoo, go ahead with your usual shower routine. The result? We were pleasantly surprised. Ok it was only one application but our hair actually felt smoother and looked slightly shinier. Plus, it was a bit a pamper that we quite enjoyed! Quick tip, make sure you thoroughly wash the oil out otherwise you’ll look like you haven’t showered at all. We want shiny hair, not greasy. Coconut oil as a moisturiser This one seems the most obvious to us. It was very moisturising but it was also quite greasy. We’re not sure we’d use it as a full body moisturiser all of the time due to drying time but if you got time to kill, go for it. We do think it would be great to use on your dry areas before self-tanning so we’ll give this a go next! Coconut oil as an exfoliator Simply mix with a bit of sugar and get going. We did this in the shower as it seemed like a sticky mess but again we were pleasantly surprised. Our skin felt silky smooth and also moisturised. I think we’ll be sticking with this recipe for a while. If you’ve got sugar and coconut oil in the house it’s a great way to save a few quid on an exfoliator! Coconut oil to remove your make up Pardon us now? This stuff removes make up?! Girls, this was a great make up remover! Even our stubborn waterproof mascara was no problem! Take some coconut oil in your fingers and simply rub it over your face. Just a warning, use a flannel that you don’t mind getting a bit dirty. Removing make up with coconut oil gets a bit messy! Other than the initial mess of eye make up smeared around your eyes, we liked it. Our faces felt really clean after and it was an added bonus that we didn’t have to apply moisturiser afterwards! I don’t think it’ll totally replace make up wipes because let’s face it, a flannel and coconut oil aren’t quite as accessible as some wipes but we’ll definitely be doing it again! We’ve quite enjoyed experimenting with this so if there’s anything else you’d like us to try for you, drop us a message!
